NEW FACILITIES IN NEW DELHI STATION

Indian Railways being the lead partner to Commonwealth Games, is also gearing up for the same.  Northern Railway is the first to come up with a unique system of making the porters(coolies) handy with the rate chart and tourist guide to help the tourists.  Shri Ashwani Lohani, Divl. Railway Manager, Delhi Division, while handing over the rate card and the tourist guide booklets, described about  the beautified renovated New Delhi Railway Station.

Speaking on the occasion  Shri Lohani said that the tourist guide booklet contains information about facilities/ amenities available at the railway stations,  metro stations connecting historical places, foreign exchange dealers, accommodation available near the railway stations, Delhi metro route map, games venue,  important telephone numbers and the rates of porters so that they do not overcharge the passengers.

A lot has been done to beautify the New Delhi Railway Station right from main entrance to platform no.16.  The flooring of all platforms has been redone and steel metal has been extensively used in form of furniture, pillars, benches etc. The circulating area has been cleaned up and entry lanes for taxis and other vehicles has been separated to decongest the area.   Paintings depicting Moods of Delhi,  etc. are being  put up.  The same is being done for other Delhi stations also.  Another foot bridge  no.3 has been constructed for the convenience of passengers.  The parcel office has been shifted from the main station on Paharganj side and in its place additional booking counters have been opened.  In all the main concourse at booking counters at New Delhi Railway Station will now be able to accommodate about 500 passengers at one time.  Also that the Digital Reservation chart is being displayed at platform no 1 & 16, which would very soon be introduced at other platforms.

Radio taxi service has also been introduced and has been made available at the Paharganj side of New Delhi Railway Station which would very soon be extended to other stations in Delhi area viz. Nizamuddin and Delhi Jn. The International Tourist Bureau, which was temporarily shifted to a retiring room is back to a renovated & newly furbished office on first floor at New Delhi Railway Station.
