Special trains for Gangasagar Mela

For clearance of heavy rush of pilgrims during Holy Gangasagar Mela, the Eastern Railway will run one pair of special trains between Namkhana and Gorakhpur leaving Namkhana on January 15 and Gorakhpur on January 12.From Namkhana the train will leave on Sunday (15 January) at 11.30 p.m. and reach Gorakhpur at 6.45 p.m. on the next day. From Gorakhpur, the train will leave on Thursday (12 January) at 6.25 a.m. and reach Namkhana at 3.30 a.m. on the next day.Besides six General Second Class, the train will have nine Second class Sleeper coaches, on AC 3-tier and two General Second class-cum-luggage vans.Booking will be opened from Wednesday (11 January) for up direction only.Gangasagar pilgrimage and fair is the second largest congregation of mankind after the holy Kumbha Mela.Gangasagar fair and pilgrimage is held annually on the Sagar Island’s southern tip in the Ganges delta atop the Bay of Bengal.Lakhs of pilgrims takes holy dips where the Hooghly meets the Bay of Bengal on the occasion of Makar Sankranti at Gangasagar every year.
